One of the elite event spaces in Central Bangalore, owned by the Royal Family, is one of the biggest gathering spaces – can accommodate about 4000 guests. Mostly hosts weddings and religious events, this space also caters to corporate events.

The clients approached us with a fragile and dilapidated shed-like structure with vital services organized surrounding the main event space – with no attention to the quality of space, light or ventilation. As no temporary structures are allowed within the premises of Palace Grounds, this structure was mostly assembled with MS and with a strict short timespan a new structure was out of the question.

As designers, our key motive was to firstly open out the spaces to expansive existing greenery on the outside, bring in natural light and ventilation, strengthen the existing structure wherever it was required to. We organized the services in the periphery along the northern edge of the site. We relooked at the entry, emphasizing on the existing trees and natural outcrops which also served as a cozy and a grand entry along the existing contours. All along the southern edge, we opened up the entire space to an expansive garden with a semi covered walkway creating a seamless connection between the indoor and the outdoor. The influx of light and ventilation completely altered the quality of celebratory space inside. To accentuate the feel of the garden spaces and create a sense of innate connection with natural environment, a series of delicate yet elegant metal artwork was proposed along different corners and axes of the spaces.
